Gutter cleaners price by the house, by the metre or by the storey. Asking each the same questions turns three different quotes into one comparison.

Questions to ask each business, with a column for each of three quotes
Ask each businessQuote AQuote BQuote C
BusinessIts name, and who you spoke to.
01Is the price for the whole house, or by length of gutter?Ask how a second storey changes it.
02Do you clear the downpipes too?Ask how they check that water runs through them afterwards.
03Where does the debris go?Bagged and taken away, or left for you.
04Will anyone walk on the roof?If it is tiled, ask how they avoid cracking tiles.
05Will you send photos from before and after? They show what was cleared, and the state of the gutters.
06What happens if you find damage?Ask them to show you or photograph it, rather than fix it without asking.
07When can you come, and what if it rains?Ask whether a rained-off visit is moved at no charge.
08Is this the full price?Ask whether downpipes, taking the debris away and any second storey are in it.
Ask each business the same questions and write the answers side by side. Printed, the sheet fills one page, with a column for each of three quotes. From sydneygutters.com.au, a concept page.

What changes the price

The length of gutter, the height of the house, how steep the roof is and how long since the last clean. Heavily blocked gutters, or trees hanging over the roof, take longer.

Some businesses also clean the roof or the solar panels on the same visit. Ask for those to be priced on their own lines.

Before the day

Clear the ground along the walls and move cars away from the house, so a ladder can stand anywhere it is needed.

Tell the business where the downpipes are, and which gutters overflow in heavy rain, if any. Keep pets inside while they work.
